5 Things to do in San Diego

I recently spent four days in San Diego with my best friend. We headed down to this southern California city for a music festival. While there we wanted to take in the sights and get a taste of San Diego.

We had an amazing time while on our girls getaway.

Here are five things I recommend doing in San Diego:

> Take a boat ride on the Hornblower. My friend and I took the one hour south bay cruise. This cruise is great for Military History buffs. It also has a great view of the downtown San Diego landscape and goes under the Coronado Bridge. Cruises leave every hour and tickets can be purchased at the Hornblower ticket booth or online.

> Stroll along the Embarcadero Marina. This area has a large boardwalk that leads to the Seaport Village shopping area and restaurants. You’ll see many cool statues along the way and spot some cool jets on the USS Midway Museum aircraft carrier.

> Spend some time in Old Town. We absolutely loved the laid back feel of this part of San Diego. There are over 40 specialty shops to browse through and some great history in this part of town. We really enjoyed Toby’s Candles in Old Town and plan to return there with our kids to dip candles.

> Check out the beach town of La Jolla. We spent half the day in La Jolla. We strolled along the waterfront and spotted hundreds of sea lions, went down in the Sunny Jim Sea Cave and had lunch at Duke’s La Jolla. There are many great shops in La Jolla and you will find the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego there. If you’re looking to spend time at the beach you must check out La Jolla shores.

> Take the Old Town Trolley. This was our absolute favourite thing to do while in San Diego. The trolley starts in Old Town and gives you the option of hopping on and off all day. We enjoyed so many of the stops. Our biggest regret is not having enough time to check out Balboa Park properly. The guides on the Old Town Trolley are filled with tidbits and great information about San Diego. We really enjoyed the option of getting off the trolley as often as we liked. The Old Town Trolley is very family friendly and has stops for everyone.

San Diego has so much to offer. If we had visited with our kids we would have made time for the San Diego Zoo and LEGOland California.

  2. I don’t know that I’ve ever been to San Diego. We really should get out to California soon though – we have family there!

  3. It’s been a while since I was in San Diego (I fly to Los Angeles every few months); I would love to go back and experience some of the things you’ve stated above. But mostly, I want to take some surfing lessons and go cage diving with Great Whites.
