Nintendo NES Classic Edition Stock Update

I am a huge fan of Nintendo. I have so many memories of my sister and I playing on our Nintendo NES as kids. Playing Duck Hunt and Super Mario Bros. are some of my best childhood memories.

Like many Nintendo fans, I was counting down to the release of the Nintendo NES Classic Editon on November 11, 2016. I naively expected store shelves to be packed with the new system and thought I’d have no problem picking one up for my kids for Christmas.

I was wrong. The Nintendo NES Classic Editon sold out in stores and online in minutes.

What’s the big deal about the NES Classic Edition?

  • It’s a miniaturized version of the original NES system for the 80’s
  • It’s a plug and play system
  • It has 30 pre-installed games (including Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong and Pac-Man)
  • It includes one NES controller
  • It has three display modes (play like these original games are meant to be or not)

NES Classic Edition

I reached out to Nintendo Canada to see if new Nintendo NES Classic Editions would be released in stores before the holidays.

Here’s what they had to say:

“The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition system is a hot item, and we are working hard to keep up with consumer demand. There will be a steady flow of additional systems through the holiday shopping season and into the new year. Please contact your local retailers to check product availability. A selection of participating retailers can be found at http://www.nintendo.com/en_CA/nes-classic.”

I am not heading to Ebay or used sites to pay an arm and leg for the NES Classic. I’ll be waiting for stores to receive more stock. I’m hoping to pick up the Nintendo NES Classic in stores before December 25th.

Not willing to wait for stores to stock up? Read my review on the Nintendo WiiU and the Nintendo DS now.

I’d love to know, did you get a Nintendo NES Classic before they sold out? Are you still looking for one at this time?

  2. I want this so bad and was bummed I didn’t get one on release day. I’m going to be looking for it this holiday season!

  3. We tried SO HARD to get this, but they were already sold out when we looked. And it’s not like we waited a long time, either. Old school gaming is really coming back.

  4. I bought online just kept refreshing the button started just before 10 mountain time by 10:15 I had my confirmation. Don’t lose hope. Don’t pay more than it’s worth. I get sick of all the gaming systems that do this before Christmas stress all the parents out if it’s not Hatchimals it Nintendo. Cause you know they make us feel like terrible parents when we can’t get our hands on the hottest toy of the season because they can’t properly stock and cause massive fights and markups on ebay because of demand.

    1. I’m totally waiting out Krista. There’s no way I’m paying more than the retail price. I have faith that they will re-stock… Lucky you for getting one!

  5. I was actually hoping to buy myself one for my birthday, which is November 17. I thought I would have no problem grabbing one, but they are definitely popular and the demand is high — so none for me yet. Maybe after the holidays!

  6. I was hoping to order one. I was on the Amazon page and refreshed and it said they had it in stock. I clicked to add it to my cart and it was gone.
