Read This! Captain Awesome Books + Giveaway!

by Melissa H

I found the transition between level readers and chapter books difficult for my boys.

I didn’t know what topics they would like, or if the content was appropriate, or if the reading level would be challenging enough without being too hard. But when my 8 year old started reading Captain Awesome and couldn’t put them down, and then asked when he could get the next one, I knew these books were the perfect fit!

Captain Awesome is a story about a boy named Eugene who creates an alter ego named Captain Awesome based on his favourite super hero. He then casts his family and schoolmates into his fantasy life during normal outings. Eugene is hilarious and often has a run in with his arch nemesis, Little Miss Stinky Pinky, or with his little sister, Queen Stinkypants, and gets help from his friends, Nacho Cheese Man and Supersonic Sal.

  1. Not sure if my nephew is reading chapter books yet but it shouldn’t be too long. Would be great to win for him and give to him when he is ready.

  2. My kids are at the age where they will be starting small chapter books very soon, but we’re still on the short readers.

  3. We are not quite at DD reading chapter books yet but should be by the end of the year – these look like a great start. We have enjoyed some books together though, and DD really liked Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

  4. My daughter is into reading graphic novels by Raina Telgemeier – Smile, Sisters and Drama. I like the theme of this book and would like to win it for her.

    1. I just realized it’s not really a chapter book but we have not started on chapter books yet. These would be a good start!
