I recently received three new books from DK Canada. Two to read to my baby and one to help me cook some delicious and healthy first foods for my little one.
I always love receiving new books to read to my baby. From very early on, I read her books as an activity, even though I knew she didn’t know what was going on. But now, she’s 7 months old and it’s part of our everyday and part of her bedtime routine. She loves it when we read books and so do I.
The baby books are Sophie the Giraffe books and they’re really great! I received Peekaboo Sophie and First Words. They’re both lift-the-flap books and she just loves those kinds of books. I find the flaps help keep her attention longer and it just adds a little more excitement to the reading of a book. They’re really colourful and easy to read – not too long, not too short!
I like the First Words book a lot because the flaps have tabs and they’re easy to open. The First Words book is also a sturdy board book, which is great for this stage because she grabs everything and tries to put everything in her mouth! The Peekaboo Sophie book is also a board book but it’s not as much of a sturdy cardboard.
The baby cookbook is entitled First Meals. It’s such a great resource for first foods for my 7 month old. I love it because this is exactly where my head’s at these days… I’m thinking of all the new foods I can give her and I love the recipe ideas that this book has provided. I think lots of parents think that they can Google baby food recipes and they’ll find lots of options, but I find that’s my problem – there’s too much out there and I get overwhelmed. This books consolidates a bunch of info, including lots of nutritional information which I always love and lots of recipe ideas that I just never even thought about before.
I really love this cookbook and I’ve already started trying out recipes. The cookbook will be useful for years to come as well. It gives you great food ideas for your toddler and up to age 7. There’s also a menu planning section which I find super useful. Takes all the guessing out of what to feed your little one and when (especially at first!).
