Every holiday season DK Canada selects some of their best books for their Gift Boutique. In the Gift Boutique this year you’ll find books on photography, trains and even James Bond. I was sent a copy of Coffee Obsession from the Gift Boutique. I chose it for my husband who is a coffee addict and I thought it would make a perfect gift for him. This gorgeous DK book is packed with tons of information on coffee. I must admit, I never realized coffee could be such a large topic. The book is separated in six parts. You’ll learn the history of coffee in the Introduction (did you know coffee was discovered at least 1000 years ago??). There is also lots of information about processing, cupping and flavour appreciation in this section.
In the Coffee Know-How section you’ll find out how to tell if your coffee is of good quality, learn how to store coffee beans and why grinding your own beans is a great idea. My favourite section is the Coffees of The World. I love this section because it clearly maps out where specific coffee beans are from and shares cool tidbits like the percentage of world market each country produces (did you know Sumatra makes around 7% of the world’s coffee!). The maps of each country is detailed and easy to understand.
The Equipment section is pretty cool. In this section you’ll learn about Espresso Machines, French Presses and even Stove-Top Pots. The last section of the book are recipes. Here you’ll find numerous (tasty looking) recipes for everything from Caffe Mocha to Scandinavian coffee.
Coffee Obsession is the perfect book for any coffee lover. It is a book that anyone would display proudly on their coffee table. DK has really thought of so many details when writing this book. I can guarantee that the coffee lover in your life would appreciate this book!
