Why we Keep Returning to Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club

My family loves traveling to Hawaii. We’ve made it a bit of a tradition and usually take the kids to Oahu during Spring Break. For the past five years, we’ve chosen to stay at Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club with our family.

We keep returning to Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club for many reasons. Mainly because it’s a gorgeous resort with top amenities. We love the spacious villas, the staff and that it’s on the quiet side of Oahu.

During this trip being economical was a big focus for our family. Our Canadian dollar is at an all-time low so we knew that our trip to Hawaii would cost more than usual. We found that staying at Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club was a great way to save money but still enjoy the Hawaii that we love.

Ways to Save

Accommodations and food are the two areas where Canadian tourists are affected the most when traveling to the USA.

For accommodations, my family always chooses to stay in a condo or villa when going to the US. We usually share a two bedroom villa with another family (this year we shared with my sister and her family) and cook most of our meals in the villa. This allows us to cut the price of our villa rental in half and save a huge amount of money on food.

The two bedroom villa at Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club is very spacious (over 1200 square feet). It is equipped with a full kitchen, washer and dryer, has a full living room and dining room, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The bedrooms are on opposite sides of the villa which gives both families some privacy. BBQs are also available for guests. We used the BBQs more than ever during this trip. There are three areas with BBQs and they are always clean and ready to go.

There are many grocery stores near Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club. Costco, Safeway, and Target are just minutes away. We always stock up on food, drinks and more on the first day we arrive.

Amenities and More!

Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club has the best amenities I’ve seen in a long time. The resort is set on a 642 acre gated community. It has access to its own lagoon, three pools, a full gym and has so much green space.

Marriott’s Ko Olina has a fabulous Keiki Club (kids club) where most activities are included in your stay. They offer craft programs, movie nights and kids hula lessons.

For adults, complementary lessons with Club Thrive are offered everyday. You’ll be able to go to yoga, core, aqua aerobics and much more.

The resort hosts many special evenings. Our most favourite is the Welina Mai event every Monday night. On this evening, performers from Fia Fia come and entertain guests of the resort and offer each and every guest a complimentary coconut to enjoy.

Extras

Of course there are a few ways to splurge when you are staying at Marriott’s Ko Olina resort. There are two restaurants and one pool side bar on site. We always enjoy the meals at Chuck’s and Longboard’s. The Lava Flow at Longboard’s is still one of my favourite drinks.

My kids are huge fans of the Shave Ice at the resort. There are two stations that sell Shave Ice on the property, one at the Naia pool and one at the Lagoon pool. My kids chose different flavours almost every time they got one.

Another thing we love to do is to rent a cabana at the lagoon for the family. This is a fun (and so comfortable) way to enjoy the beautiful beach and have access to shade when needed. Cabana rentals are $60 for a full day and are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Perhaps the best extra activity you could do when staying a Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club is treating yourself and your family to the Fia Fia Luau on Tuesday nights. My family has been to the Fia Fia Luau several times and it has never disappointed. We always enjoy the food, love the show hosted by chief Sielu and couldn’t ask for a better setting.
