I have interesting hair – some of it is curly, some of it is wavy, some of it is pretty much straight. All of it is frizzy – very annoying… but the one thing that’s good about my hair is that it responds well to most of my styling attempts. I’m a slave to my hair straightener and even use it to curl my hair but I’ve always wanted a good curling iron. I was very excited when I had the chance to try out the InstaWave Automatic Curler by KISS.
I read the instructions and tried to wrap my head around how to use this new contraption. It looked relatively straightforward but because I’d never used anything like this, I wasn’t really sure how it would go.
I turned it on the high level and waited for the red light to turn blue, which indicates the iron is ready to use.
Step 1 – Hold the InstaWave upright and place 1-2 inches of hair onto curler.
Step 2 – Press button to instantly catch hair and rotate curling barrel. Hold button until hair is fully around barrel, then release.
Step 3 – Allow barrel to heat hair for 3 to 10 seconds (time depends on style of curl and hair type)
Step 4 – Pull InstaWave gently downward to release a beautiful curl.
Seems simple enough – well it took me a few attempts for sure to get how the curler catches hair and I wasn’t successful every time. I still need practice, but overall, it didn’t take long for me to get the hang of it.
My hair didn’t really catch tightly around the barrel which is what I’m used to with other curling or straightening appliances, but I think it’s because I need to practice a little more. That said, even though my hair wasn’t tightly wrapped around the barrel, it still waved my hair nicely.
I actually found if I placed the curler close to my hair it would catch a good amount of hair on it’s own – it was almost easier than holding a specific 1-2 inch thick piece of hair to catch. So I think the more I use the curler, the more I’ll learn tricks to make the curling experience easier and faster.
When I was done curling all of my hair, it was full of body with really great waves and I loved the way it looked really natural. The barrel turns both ways so you can alternate the direction of the curl, which generally gives you a more natural look, or you can keep the curl all one direction – whatever you prefer.
Some of the features I like about the InstaWave Automatic Curler include:
- The ceramic ionic barrel
- The auto shut off features (you don’t want to know how many times have I left my straighter on ALL day while I was at work!)
- The swivel cord
