I was recently asked by The Mother Company to check out their Ruby’s Studio books and DVDs. I had not heard of their books or DVDs before so I did a bit of research.
The first thing I did was log onto their site and immediately saw their heading stating “Helping Parents Raise Good People”. Wow, that was powerful. Isn’t that what every parent aims to do?
I looked up their products a bit more and was given the opportunity to read two of their Ruby’s Studio books and watch The Friendship Show with my children.
My daughter loved the two books that we received – “Sally Simon Simmons’ Super Frustrating Day” and “A Little Book About Feelings”. We also received the “My Feelings Activity Book“.
Sally Simon Simmond’s Super Frustrating Day is the story of little Sally. We get to step inside Sally’s classroom and see what she does when she’s asked to build a yummy sandwich. My daughter and I soon began to empathize with Sally as we watched her super large sandwich topple over a few times. We also loved how Sally kept trying and decided to “…breathe and take it slow!” This story brought on some great discussions with my daughter and I. I have found myself reminding her of Sally’s story quite often when she gets frustrated with something (even with her little brother!).
A Little Book About Feelings is a book that talks about – you guessed it – feelings. It points out that everyone – even pets – have feelings. It also discusses how we express our feelings, share our feelings and listen to our feelings. This book helped my daughter realize that you have to respect everyone’s feelings and that its OK to feel happy, sad or frustrated.
My daughter’s favourite book is the “My Feelings Activity Book“. This is mainly because my daughter LOVES workbooks. She loves colouring and filing in blanks. We’ve worked through most of the book together. There are so many great conversation starters in this Activity Book.
The DVD “The Friendship Show” was the ultimate tool for us. I sat down with my daughter and watched the entire movie – a few times! My daughter and I discussed the situations as we watched the movie. I absolutely loved all the topics this DVD touched on. The Golden Rule is brought up a few times and was very valuable to us. It’s message – to treat others like you want to be treated- really stuck with my daughter. I have heard her say to her brother, “That’s not the Golden Rule!”. This is a movie that we’ll be watching again and again and sharing with our friends.
I highly recommend all the Ruby’s Studio books and DVDs. I also urge you to check out The Mother Company website. It is filled with Expert Advice and Parental Wisdom. On the site you’ll find advice on everything from discipline to modern parenting. This website is my new go-to site for everything parenting.
