I had the opportunity to review a couple books from DK Canada’s Mother’s Day Boutique. I received The Women’s Fitness Book and Handmade Gifts. There are so many great titles – from home design books to art books, gardening books to cookbooks. Great selection!
I have to start by saying that I absolutely love DK Canada books. They are among the most beautiful books I’ve ever had in my house. They’re always visually appealing, interesting and educational.
Since I’m home a lot with my baby, I chose a couple books I thought I could make use of with my time spent at home. I like to spend her nap times doing something for me sometimes so The Women’s Fitness Book and Handmade Gifts seemed fitting. First, I have a thing for fitness (although you probably wouldn’t know it these days…) and second, I’ve started doing little crafty things at home, like painting new art for my bathroom.
What I love about The Women’s Fitness Book:
- Really thorough introductions to several different workouts – love this, because it breaks things down for people. It explains things like what kind of gear you’ll need, to proper techniques, to the benefits of the workout itself.
- Helpful workout tips – not just the workouts themselves…
- Great visuals to ensure you’re doing the exercises properly.
- Some pretty hilarious workout titles: “better-in-bed workout”, “ten years younger workout”, and “bride to be workout”. Love it…
What I love about Handmade Gifts:
- Not only great craft and gift ideas, but there’s a templates section at the back to help you with shapes.
- Step-by-step visuals and explanations of the crafts.
- With the exception of a few more advanced crafts, I’d say most of these are totally doable by the average person (and I would consider myself to be average!). Then again, if you’re looking for a bit of a challenge, those more advanced crafts are really well explained and broken down well.
- Ideas range from jewelry to edible gifts to ideas for pets.
I definitely plan on making use of these books. I will use the fitness book as my guide for home workouts, including stretching properly, which is something I never do enough of; and I will be trying my hand at a few crafts, I’m thinking of trying to make the knotted scarf and stencilled bags; and my husband even showed an interest in soap making!
