Best School Year Ever with DK Canada

The school year has just started in British Columbia. Sadly, we were affected by a teacher strike and our start time was delayed.

I was happy to have the opportunity to test out some great books from the DK Canada Back to School Boutique to keep my daughter’s mind sharp before school started.

We received 10 Minutes a Day: Spelling, First French Picture Dictionary, My First Encyclopedia and French Made Easy.

These books are well designed and make learning fun! My daughter and I love them!

{10 Minutes a Day: Spelling}

We love that this book come with a timer. The idea behind this series is that 10 minutes of practice a day can make a big impact on a child’s learning. My daughter loves starting the timer. She sees the timer count up and knows she won’t have to do hours of homework. She also likes timing how long it takes her to do each lesson.

This workbook works on vowel sounds, blends and spelling rules. It’s filled with fun exercises, has colourful images and even time fillers.

{First French Picture Dictionary}

This is a great book for any child learning French. The book is separated in themes (kitchen, ocean, sports etc). On each page there are pictures with French words below them. Under the French word is a phonetic way to say the word and the english word. Many pages have extra words to learn. There is also an English – French dictionary and a French – English dictionary at the back of the book with thousands of words.

We love this book and have been building our French vocabulary with it every night.

{My First Encyclopedia}

This is a great book for all inquiring minds. My kids love learning about all kinds of topics. This reference book answers so many questions for them. The book is separated in six sections: Body and Health, Everyday Life, Science and Technology, Living Planet , Our World and Transportation.

The illustrations and details on every page are great for young kids. I also love the “did you know?” facts found on every page. We’ve already learnt a lot from My First Encyclopedia and have only read half the book! I look forward to continue learning with my kids.

{French Made Easy}

This is a great workbook for anyone learning French. The book has over 30 topics to learn. The book starts with how to greet and say your name. It also covers numbers, body parts, clothing and more. You’ll also learn some adjectives and basic verbs.
