This year I’m participating in The Great Canadian Blog Bash! I thought that blogging about my plans for an upcoming trip to our Nation’s Capital would be perfect for the Blog Bash.
This summer my family is going on two great trips. Our first trip is to Ottawa, Ontario. I’m so looking forward to going back to my hometown to visit family and friends. When we’re there I hope to take in some great sites with the kids.
The last time I went to Ottawa my daughter was only 3 months old. This time my daughter will be 6 and my son is 2.5. I know the experience will be amazing for them.
Things my family plans to do while in the Ottawa region:
- Visit the Byward Market. When I think of markets I immediately think of the Byward Market. My family and I went to this market almost every weekend when I was a kid. I can’t wait to take my kids to see all the flowers, fresh fruits and veggies and gifts the market features every day of the week.
- Visit the Children’s Museum at the Museum of Civilization. Another place that holds great memories for me. I remember visiting this museum several times as a child. This summer the Children’s Museum has a special Mr Potato Head exhibit. Sounds like great fun! The museum is open 7 days a week. Check out the museum site for more information.
- Walk on the grounds of Parliament Hill. This site is breathtaking. As a child I always remember being in awe of the gorgeous parliament buildings. There are many great tours offered at Parliament Hill. One event we hope to attend is the changing of the guard which happens everyday at 10am.
- Visit the ByTown Museum and the locks. Again, this is a very special place to me. I think I visited the ByTown Museum every year with my school. I absolutely adored the little house. I imagined myself living there! The locks located on the same site are also fabulous. If you’re lucky you’ll get to see boats using them. The process is amazing, especially to a kid!

It’s been a long while since we’ve been to Ottawa. Went to visit family and ran out of time to check out all the sites we had planned to….maybe a road trip is in order for next summer, and first on the list would be the Children’s Museum at the Museum of Civilization,
I love Ottawa! It is such a great city with so many places to visit and things to see. I hope to take my family there soon!

That’s exciting! I love Ottawa and the Byward Market. I would love to take my son when he is a little older. I love these activities 🙂
