Classroom Fun: Topic Talk by SuperDuper Publications

I’m always looking for new ways to engage my students in the classroom. I don’t like handing out worksheets all day long. That’s why I love two new games from Super Duper Publications.

I’ve been using TopicTalk and the All About You, All About Me Fun Deck in my classroom.

The minute I took out TopicTalk and explained it to my students they were hooked. TopicTalk gets my students talking. Every card in the TopicTalk deck has a great subject my students want to talk about.

TopicTalk includes:

• Total of 205 cards (2 ½” x 3 ½”)
• 75 topic cards
• 70 talk cards
• 30 question cards
• 20 doubletalk cards
• 10 wild cards
• 5 minute timer

There are many ways to play this game. I pair my students up and give them one card to share. I ask the groups to choose a partner A and a partner B. Give each partner 5 minutes to answer and talk about the question (I love using the timer included – this works great!) then I give them an extra 5 minutes to write about their topic in their journal. My students love the questions and have had lots to talk about with every card. This is a very valuable resource for any classroom teacher!

I’ve also been using the All About You, All About Me Fun Deck in class. I love this game because it gets my students moving around and talking to many different classmates.

For this game I give each student one card. To start I have them turn to the person closest to them. They read their card and answer the question and talk about the subject. After about two minutes I ring my bell, have them switch cards with their partner and then find another partner. They have had a great time playing this game! We play with this Fun Deck at least twice per week.

I love that both of these games come in hard metal tins. This is very important for classroom games.
