Find Yo-Kai Everywhere in Yo-Kai Watch!

Last week my daughter and I were so excited to receive a top secret box from Nintendo Canada. Inside the box was the latest game for the Nintendo 3DS, Yo-Kai Watch.

I had no idea what this game was about but both my daughter and I were ready to try it out.

Yo-Kai Watch is a role-playing video game. You start the game by choosing your avatar. Once that is done you have simple instructions to follow. My daughter and I had a great time getting used to the house, the neighbourhood of Springdale and the surrounding areas.

About 30 minutes into the game we came across our first Yo-Kai. A Yo-Kai is a type of ghost (but not really a ghost!) that causes mischief and trouble in town. The first Yo-Kai we met was called Whisper.  Whisper pretty much became our mentor and he now tells us what to do in Yo-Kai Watch.

Whisper gave us a Yo-Kai watch and guides us on how to find and capture Yo-Kai. Since Yo-Kai are invisible you need to use the watch to find them. The purpose of capturing Yo-Kai is to stop them from creating mischief in town.  It’s very easy to use the Yo-Kai watch to capture Yo-Kai around town. Once you capture Yo-Kai you befriend them and create a team to battle other Yo-Kai.

So far we have really enjoyed playing this game. It is great to have Whisper as our guide while we play. We’ve befriended about ten Yo-Kai and are constantly working on getting more.

Yo-Kai Watch is available for purchase on November 6, 2015. You can purchase the physical game in stores or in the Nintendo eShop. You can also purchase a Nintendo 2DS Bundle that includes the Nintendo 2DS and Yo-Kai Watch.

Yo-Kai Watch is recommended for ages 10 and up. It has some mild fantasy violence and comic mischief. The game does require the player to do a lot of reading as well. I think it’s a very fun game. I look forward to capturing more Yo-Kai with my daughter. I’m hoping we eventually find all 200 Yo-Kai!

I’d love to know, what do you think your kids would most like about Yo-Kai Watch?

  1. Well my kids would love all of this I think. We don’t have that many 3 DS games but this one seems like a winner. They enjoy creating their own avatar and they love anything that has an anime feel to it so this seems perfect. I will look for it for Christmas time.
