My family likes to get away every chance we get. We’ve done a lot of exploring abroad and in our province of British Columbia.
Every holiday is special, the length of our trips range from 3 days to 3 weeks.
Here are some of my favourite mini-vacation ideas for British Columbia.
Explore the Big City: Vancouver
My husband and I have always loved the buzz of Vancouver. We enjoy walking around downtown, shopping and taking in a show when we visit Vancouver.
One of our favourite places to stay when we’re in Vancouver is The Hilton Downtown Vancouver. The Westin Grand is located in the heart of the city. It has a great kid-approved pool and is close to Rogers Area, BC Place and more. I especially like that The Westin Grand has rooms and suites available. We always book a suite when staying here, the extra room is always a good thing to have when travelling with kids.

Explore the Great Outdoors: Port Renfrew
One of our favourite getaways is to Port Renfrew on Vancouver Island. Port Renfrew is under 2hrs from Victoria. It is a beautiful small town surrounded by the ocean and forest.
Our favourite place to stay when we go to Port Renfrew are at the Seaside Cottages. Here you’ll find studios and two-bedroom cottages located on a private beach. We always book a two-bedroom cottage because it has a full kitchen, private balcony with fire pit and has easy access to the beach.

Explore a Surf-Haven: Tofino
Another special place for my family on Vancouver Island is Tofino. Tofino is known for its gorgeous beaches, surfing, and beautiful scenery.
There are many wonderful places to stay in Tofino. One of our favourite places is to stay is at Ocean Village on MacKenzie Beach. At Ocean Village, you’ll find A-frame cabins with all the amenities that families need. All cabins have a fully equipped kitchen and have access to an outdoor BBQ area. Ocean Village also has the only indoor pool in Tofino, a big bonus for my kids!

Explore BC’s Capital: Victoria
Like any other family, ours loves a good staycation. When we decide to get away in our own city we love staying at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Suites.Â
The DoubleTree Victoria is located in the heart of Victoria, within walking distance of the Legislature and the Inner-Harbour. There are several restaurants surrounding this hotel and so many fun family-friendly activities to do nearby. We always love getting a suite when staying here. The beds at the DoubleTree by Hilton are perhaps the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept on and the views from your balcony are breathtaking.

We are so lucky to live in a part of Canada that has so many great options for quick getaways. I look forward to visiting our favourite getaway spots again this year.

oh my gosh! ocean village ! i so want to go there someday with our kids. hubby and i went to BC two years ago but it was only for a couple days. definitely wasnt a long enough stay. hope to go back their but with our kids this time and check out some of the places you mentioned in this post

I have booked a stay at Ocean Village in Tofino to bring my kids in the spring. We’ve never been and Tofino is on my bucket list! I can’t wait 🙂

I would love to visit Tofino.
I’ve never really visited Vancouver, just passed through on my way to Vancouver Island where we stayed for 2 weeks touring the island. I very much enjoyed the freshly caught shrimp straight off the boat and salmon fishing too – my daughter was the only one to catch one, lol. I’d love to visit BC again, the fresh peaches left a lasting impression too, beautifully sweet not like we buy here in AB.
They all look like great places to stay at, I love those cabins!! by just looking at your pictures it looks like you love the height and staying in rooms overlooking the city
This makes me realize that we need to get out and explore more! We have a secluded acreage of our own, so my husband never wants to leave 😂
